Technology has always been designed to make the user’s tasks easier to complete, whether it’s an assignment for a class, a time-sensitive project for an employer, or annual tax documents. For students with developmental and learning disabilities, the need for technological assistance in education is even greater.

Special education is geared toward students living with a broad range of conditions, including blindness, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Down syndrome, motor impairments, and autism. The course is intended to provide the specialists involved in education of people with special educational needs (SEN), with an overview of main ways, methods, and principles of information and communication technology (ICT) usage in their professional activities.

In our 5-day Erasmus+ KA1 Teacher Training Course, participants will discover web based tools and apps to enhance teaching in Special Needs Education. This training course is designed for innovative teachers who wants to take one step forward and to make a difference in their teaching methods in digital future.

Participants who successfully complete this training program will be competent in the following areas:

 

  • Know and understand individual differences and diverse cultures/communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that promote high standards and high expectation of all learners.
  • Recognise the importance of diversity education.
  • Demonstrate the ability to continue learning about cultures and to expand one’s perspectives, adapting to new and varied student needs, in addition to understanding the basic traditions and values inherent to various cultures and issues.
  • Know and demonstrate in practice, multiple strategies for teaching and assessing students with varied needs and styles of learning.
  • Know, understand, and demonstrate a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
  • Appropriately incorporate diverse cultural material into the curriculum and know how to screen educational materials for biased or potentially offensive material.

Day 2 - Tuesday

 

Assistive Technologies (AT) and their main classifications: Timers, Reading guides, Text to speech, Alternative keyboards, Writing supports etc.

Choosing and using appropriate AT

Tools based on Augmented Reality

Day 3 - Wednesday

 

Apps for engaging and maintaining interest of students with Special Needs 

Book Creator - a versatile app to create digital content

Practical Activity

Class Activity : Creating a digital learning group game

 

Day 4 - Thursday

 

Distant technologies which are important for education of students with special educational needs.

Different types of Distant education (DE) technologies that can be used for students with SEN

Main accessibility barriers to DE for students with SEN

Software to support Specific Learning Disabilities

 

Day 5 - Friday

 

Software to support SEN students in Maths, in English 

Final remarks and group discussion  

Exchange of ideas for future collaborations at European level
