Digital Game Based Learning and Gamification, both of them are educational  approaches to motivate students to learn, either through using video game design and/ or applying game elements in learning environments. Even though these approaches differs from each other, they both share the same goal which is to maximise students’  engagement in classroom and to inspire them to continue learning.

In this course, participants will learn the basic principals of game based learning and  gamification in a classroom environment. More specifically, this course focuses on  these approaches on a digital context. The aim is to provide participant tools to establish the connection between game elements, mechanics, components and dynamics, of digital game based learning and gamification.

This is a training that equips the participants with digital examples on how games and gamification can be used in education while engaging in activities related to the  appropriate application of game based learning and gamification design. While the participants learn the concept of gamification and the elements surrounding it, they will have an opportunity to apply what they have learned through various activities.

  1. Enhanced Understanding of Digital Games in Education: You will gain a thorough understanding of how digital games can be used as educational tools. You’ll learn how different types of games can be applied to various subjects and age groups to make learning more engaging and effective.

  2. Practical Skills in Game-Based Learning: You will acquire practical skills to design and implement game-based learning activities in your classroom. This includes selecting appropriate games, integrating them into your curriculum, and using them to support different learning objectives.

  3. Effective Use of Gamification Techniques: You will learn how to apply gamification principles to enhance learning experiences. This involves using game-like elements such as points, badges, and leaderboards to motivate students and make lessons more interactive and enjoyable.

  4. Strategies for Increased Student Engagement: You will develop strategies to boost student engagement and participation through game-based learning. You will understand how to create an environment where students are more motivated to learn and actively participate in lessons.

  5. Critical Evaluation of Educational Games: You will develop the ability to critically evaluate educational games and gamification tools. This means assessing their effectiveness, relevance, and alignment with educational goals to ensure they meet your teaching needs.

  6. Integration of Technology in Teaching: You will gain insights into how to seamlessly integrate technology into your teaching practice. You’ll learn how to use digital tools alongside traditional methods to create a balanced and innovative learning environment.

  7. Customisation of Learning Experiences: You will learn how to customise digital games and gamification techniques to cater to diverse learning needs and styles. This includes adapting activities for different levels of ability and creating inclusive learning experiences.
